Hopefully, this will help validate the fact that Rufus is actually getting the ISOs directly from Microsoft, without altering them in any way. And since all Windows retail ISOs are the same, you can actually validate that these ISOs have not been altered by checking their SHA-1 as described here (NB: While Rufus can do it, you don't really have to use Rufus to compute the SHA-1 if you're still suspicious about the application - There are plenty of independent SHA-1 sum applications out there).
And again, this will provide you with 100% UNALTERED Microsoft retail Windows ISOs. You can however have Rufus (or Fido, which you can run from a PowerShell prompt if you want) generate that download URL for you, by querying the Microsoft servers. The main issue that Microsoft does not provide permanent links, so you can't just ask someone to provide you with a URL, as any official Microsoft ISO download URL is only valid for a few hours. And Rufus uses a 100% Open Source script (called Fido) to do just that.Ĭouldnt i just try to go to whatever file repo that Rufus is getting it from ? The thing is that, even if does not provide you with a link to access old Windows 10 ISOs, theses ISOs are still being provided by Microsoft if you know how to query its servers. Rufus gets these ISOs directly from the OFFICIAL Microsoft servers. No recomposing of ISO on the fly (like adguard) or other shennanigans. Where exaclty is rufus getting that DL from ?ĭIRECTLY from Microsoft. With Rufus being 100% Open Source, we are exceedingly transparent about everything we do (if you need some convincing, I may invite you to read our security page that goes over the length we go through to make sure that you can trust Rufus never to do anything malicious or unwanted). I have read that you can use rufus to DL past versions but that makes me a little nervous.
