This model is by Key Imports/Samhongsa and represents the K-5 class as-built/as-delivered to the Erie in 1918. The Erie was the only railroad to truly own USRA Heavy Pacifics. The K-5 Class 4-6-2 (aka USRA Heavy Pacific) The paint job on this one is simply stunning to say the least. This is a Nickel Plate Products/Tae Hwa model, and represents one of the variations with a high-headlight (if you look a photos of the prototype, there’s endless variations in headlight positions, running boards, front steps, etc). The K-1s performed admirably in this task, and some served until 1953/4, a nearly 50 year working life! As other classes of Pacifics (like the K-5s) superseded them in later years, the K-1s ended up as the backbone of the Erie's commuter fleet. The K-1s were the first class of Pacifics the Erie owned, being built between 1905-8, and rebuilt with superheaters between 1912-17. This is another in my ongoing saga of developing my Erie Railroad roster. Everything else, including my tools and kits, is still packed up. I took the time to separate everything needing to be inventoried just so I could make this year-end update. The big life update is that I finally moved house in November, after about 4 years planning to do so.
